December First Friday at TRAX will feature FOUR amazing artists that use techniques in metal works, copper art jewelry, acrylic paints, and fused glass.

Sayla McConnell was born and raised in Fairbanks. Her happy place is in her shop sipping on coffee in the early morning, listening to music and working on her next piece of garage art. Her inspiration comes from the beauty all around us, especially from nature and this beautiful state. Her passion is creating mosaics which she has been doing for over 15 years. She is particularly drawn to mirrors and loves the way they brighten a room. Recently she has been enjoying a journey with creating mirrors from pallets. She is often joined in her garage by her two little children that are also starting to explore with mosaics.

Riva Sazama has always worked both two and three dimensionally with a very intuitive and open approach to art making. She has a strong attachment to material and keeps a wide range of ingredients in her studio to choose from. Materials range from natural to the man-made, and she frequently combines both together within a single piece. Process is essential to her practice, as she’s drawn to methods of making art that are repetitive, additive, and time consuming. Riva specializes in hand built constructions where evidence of the artists hand is an integral part of the finished object.

Brandy Milles, born and raised in Fairbanks, Alaska is a self taught artist who began painting in high school and has been hooked ever since. Currently she has works in the Mayors office and West Valley high School. She paints with acrylics, however over the past few years has branched out to photography, pen and ink. Landscapes and animals are the main themes to her art.

John Stahl has lived in Alaska for the past 37 years, started drawing as a young kid and continued doing so into his early 20’s. After taking a break from art for a while, John worked in construction for the past 35 years and started doing some metal and copper work over the past 10 years but not seriously until 2013.

Most of his inspiration comes from seeing the large amount of junk coming out of mass produced computer generated pieces whether they be furniture or art and even sculptures. His ideas come mostly from seeing what is not out there on the market and then building it out of real metal. Whether it’s a a sculpture, table, gate or yard art, what comes from his workshop will usually be something unique and seldom seen anywhere else.
